End of Season

Although we were all in lock down for several weeks, one of our members, Neil, was busy treating/staining the exterior of our clubhouse, working through the very hot conditions.   But WOW what a difference his hard work has made.  We now have a very smart clubhouse both internally and externally so something positive came out of lockdown!

We managed to open the green in June, carefully keeping to Government guidelines to ensure a safe environment for our members.  Starting off with practice sessions, this was followed up by competitions organised by our competition secretaries, Brian and Jill.

We had singles, men’s pairs, ladies pairs and mixed pairs.  All pairs games were run to an Australian pairs format which made a welcome change and was very well received by all those taking part.

Singles winner was Chris Thorne with Ben Jones runner up.   Cheryl Mckenzie was oveerall winner for the ladies.  Men’s pairs winners were Mike Solomon and Mike Turnock with runners up Malcolm Mckenzie and Bob Willcox.  Ladies pairs winners were Jill Willcox and Lyn Craddock (run on a round robin basis).  Mixed pairs were Brian Rumble and Gill Hunt with runners up Bob and Jill Willcox.

The last two days of the season saw drawn triples played morning and afternoon on both days.  This was played on a round robin basis of one hour per match.  With two matches in the morning and two in the afternoon.  The eventual winners being Mike Solomon, Francis Hewett and Brian Pratt.

Also, over these two days Liz ran a cake stall in aid of Macmillan  which raised almost £200.

So here we are again at the end of a very unusual season.  However, what bowling we had was greatly appreciated by those who took part.  As one member said it lifted the spirts being active and meeting up with fellow members.  See you all in 2021.
