Bridport versus SDBA

Both men’s County games were against Dorchester on Monday evening.  Bridport were away facing very stiff opposition.  There was just one winning rink- Brian Medland, Keith Brooks, Barry Shortland and Chris Thorne.  They raced off to an early lead and despite a nil count on ends 11-15 they managed to prevail with a 3 shot win so securing 2 points for Bridport.  Bridport A hosted Dorchester at home and had a very successful evening with a win on all rinks and all the points! Top rink to Steve Crimp, Brian Pratt, Bob Seadon and Tom Tocher.

The ladies were off to a great start in their county game away to Sherborne – and then it rained!  Daters, Craddock, Tibble and Brooks were able to win by 2 shots but Hewett, Strange, Seadon and Willcox lost by just 3 missing the overall points by 1 shot, apparently to a lucky wick!

On a bright and sunny Thursday afternoon Bridport Bowling Club welcomed the County Ladies from Devon and the Isle of Wight.  This is a friendly County game between the two clubs which we have hosted at Bridport for many years.  Unfortunately, covid prevented the fixture in 2020 and 2021 so it was lovely to see them back on the green and the result – an honourable draw.    They enjoyed a lovely supper afterwards of homemade lasagne, garlic bread and salad followed by  cheesecake.   Many thanks to Fran Morgan, Dawn Greenfield and their band of helpers.

On Friday Bridport men travelled to Dorchester to face their nemesis again in the first round of the National Top Club.  This game is made up of five disciplines each attracting 1 point with the winner of the most points progressing to the next round.  Unfortunately, Bridport gained 1 point in the winning triple of Medland, Jones and Solomon.  So, Dorchester will continue their quest for glory.

Saturday saw 8 of the 11 men playing the previous evening travel yet again to Dorchester for the first round of the National Double Rink competition.  Obviously third time lucky, with a win by one shot on the rink of Taylor, Scott, Jones and Solomon and another win by 8 shots for Medland, Brooks, Shortland and Thorne.  Bridport to continue into the next round.

Saturday afternoon played at home was the annual friendly against South Dorset Bowling Association with further success for Bridport with 4 winning rinks.  Top rink to Hewett, Clapp, Tibble and Tibble.

Last match of the week was a mixed friendly against Seaton.  This resulted in two winning rinks each and an overall shot count to Bridport of 69 v 65.  Rink of the match for Bridport was Carol Broad, Dawn Greenfield, Bob Taylor and Mike Solomon.
